Targeted Instruction Across Every Range of Combat

Led by AJ Maloney (MMA and BJJ Instructor), FIGHT MIND coaching eliminates guesswork. Sessions are tailored to your physical attributes, current skill level, and specific technical bottlenecks.

Instruction Formats

Focused Mat Time Without Crowd Dilution

Large group classes often leave students repeating subtle alignment errors for months. Direct coaching provides immediate tactile feedback on weight distribution, lever control, and timing.

Format 01 · Individual

1-on-1 Private Instruction

Dedicated individual coaching where AJ Maloney serves as both instructor and primary tactile feeder, letting you feel exact pressure, frame angles, and off-balancing cues.

  • Immediate correction of posture, base, and grip placement
  • Paced specifically to your conditioning and injury history
  • Ideal for beginners building a safe foundation or experienced athletes fixing specific holes
Format 02 · Partner Pod

Small-Group Technical Drilling

Train alongside 1 to 3 trusted partners under close coaching supervision. Combines third-person visual observation with live partner resistance and rapid coaching adjustments.

  • Structured constraint-led rounds between matched partners
  • Real-time troubleshooting of passing, guard retention, and wall exchanges
  • High repetition density with active coaching oversight
Format 03 · Tactical Audit

Positional Diagnostics & Gameplanning

Map out cohesive decision trees connecting your strongest positions. Eliminate dead-end scrambles and build reliable pathways from standing engagement to dominant control.

  • Auditing recurring trouble spots (e.g., getting flattened in half guard or pinned on the wall)
  • Connecting primary entries to secondary follow-up chains
  • Pacing and energy-management strategy
Four Curriculum Tracks

Modular Technical Progression

Students can progress sequentially through the four tracks or combine modules to address immediate training priorities.

Track A · Core Architecture

Foundations & Positional Survival

Before chasing offense, every practitioner must trust their defensive architecture. This track installs the skeletal frames and hip movement needed to survive and escape beneath heavier or more aggressive partners.

  • Stance, base, posture, and safe breakfall/stand-up mechanics
  • Inside elbow-knee connection and defending the crossface/underhook
  • Systematic escapes from mount, side control, north-south, and turtle
  • Back-exposure defense, hand-fighting, and returning shoulders to the mat
Track B · Grappling Systems

BJJ Guard Retention, Passing & Top Control

Available for both No-Gi and Gi training. Focuses on linking open and close-range guards with systematic passing and heavy, inescapable top pins.

  • Layered guard retention: feet, knees, hips, and shoulder frames
  • Sweeps and off-balances (kuzushi) that expose the back or top position
  • Connected passing: combining outside lateral movement with headquarters pressure
  • Chest-to-chest pinning, ride mechanics, and high-percentage finish isolation
Track C · Multi-Range Integration

MMA Wall Craft & Striking-to-Grappling

Pure grappling changes when strikes and a cage or wall are introduced. Learn how to manage distance, cross the striking seam safely, and dominate upright clinches and mat returns.

  • Feints, proactive head movement, and level-change timing
  • Cage/wall pummeling: underhook, overhook, and head-position leverage
  • Chaining takedown finishes with immediate hip-heavy top rides
  • Wall-walking, switch-base reversals, and standing up safely under fire
Track D · Cognitive Execution

Fight IQ, Pacing & Pressure Decision-Making

Technical skill degrades rapidly when heart rate spikes and tunnel vision sets in. This track trains composed recognition and energy efficiency during live resistance.

  • Identifying safe rest vs. urgent transition windows
  • Forcing opponents into predictable defensive reactions
  • Situational rounds with time, score, or positional constraints
  • Breathing recovery protocols between high-output scrambles
